Yunus Center at AIT Marks the Successful Completion of the Professional Development Training Program:
Mainstreaming Climate Change and Gender in National Planning and Budgeting
The Yunus Center at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) proudly announces the successful conclusion of the first cohort of its professional development training program 𝙈𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙡𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘽𝙪𝙙𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨, attended by government officials from the Ministry of Finance, Tanzania.
The program, held from 23 September to 4 October 2024, was conducted across three prominent locations: AIT Conference Center (AITCC), Novotel Hotel Future Park Rangsit, and Ambassador Hotel Bangkok. All the parti The training also included enriching cultural experiences, including a day trip to Pattaya Beach and a cultural tour in Bangkok.
This intensive 15-day program focused on key themes such as climate change mitigation, gender-responsive budgeting, climate smart finance, and the integration of gender considerations in national development plans.
Led by a team of expert facilitatorsthis program equipped participants with the necessary tools to incorporate climate change and gender considerations into national planning and budgeting frameworks. The training saw active engagement from professionals and policymakers, who are now better positioned to contribute to sustainable development and gender equity in their respective sectors.
Amongst the intensive training, the delegates had a chance to visit the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council Thailand (NESDC), further enhancing their understanding of the practical applications of their learning. The training also included enriching cultural experiences, highlighted by a day trip to Pattaya Beach featuring a variety of activities and a cultural tour in Bangkok.
Mr. Russell Rein, VPA of the Asian Institute of Technology addressed the participants during the inauguration ceremony of the training on 23 September 204 along with Mr. Alex Mwakisu, Assistant Director-Risk Management, Planning Division, Ministry of Finance Tanzania. The first cohort concluded with closing remarks and an awards ceremony, where Prof. Fiaz Shah, Executive Director of Yunus Center AIT, congratulated the Tanzanian officials on their dedication to this intensive training.
Prof. Shah referenced Professor Muhammad Yunus's example of how microcredit empowers individuals, particularly women, who struggle to obtain loans from banks. He emphasized Yunus’ social business initiatives aimed at poverty reduction through education and reaffirmed YCA's commitment to providing quality training and education. Prof. Shah expressed his interest in exploring more future collaboration opportunities with Tanzania and highlighted how the training equips delegates to implement strategies from the top down to the grassroots level, underscoring that budgeting plays a crucial role in shaping effective policy implications.
We are also excited to announce that we will be welcoming another cohort of Tanzanian Govt. officials on 07 October 2024 for the next phase of this impactful program.
